The Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP)

WHAT IS THE CONAP PROGRAM

The Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP) is an Army unique program, exclusively for Soldiers in the Active and Reserve components. It is a partnership between the United States Army Recruiting Command, over 2,000 participating colleges, and the Service Member Opportunity College. It originated in the late 1980s, after Congressional criticism over the low usage rate of the Montgomery GI Bill. ConAP is designed to forge a partnership between a Future Soldier and a college at the time of enlistment. ConAP has three primary goals:

  • Increase the number of enlistments of students currently enrolled in college, into the Army and Army Reserves

  • Increase the number of Soldiers, Veterans, and Reservists enrolled in college and using GI Bill benefits

  • Establish a partnership between recruiters, colleges, and high schools

THE BENEFITS OF CONAP

At the time of enlistment, ConAP establishes a relationship between the Soldier and a Military Friendly College, typically one that’s located near their home of record. During the Future Soldier Orientation, the new Soldier will select a “Home School,” and a “Degree Program.” The home school establishes an agreement with the Soldier allowing them to take classes at different schools, and agreeing to award credit (so long as it fits into the degree plan). In addition using the American Council on Education Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services (ACE Guide), to award credit for military training and job experience.
